Emperor Goose
Description:

Both sexes have a white head and neck contrasted with a smokey black body. The cheek and upper neck are usually amber stained. The pinkish bill is black edged and there is a chalky blue color on the wings. They have pink or reddish-orange feet. The juvenile geese lack the white head.
Typical Size:

The male and female average 27 inches in length and reach a weight of 5 pounds. Their wingspan can reach 54 inches.
Habitat:

The blue goose concentrate on shallow fresh or brackish estuaries adjacent to agricultural areas.
Breeding:
 The blue goose breed in the tundra areas of eastern Canada and other areas of the eastern arctic.
Diet:

Blue geese are grubbers feeding on root, rhizomes and shoots of bulrushes and salt marsh cordgrass. They also make extensive use of agricultural fields found adjacent to wintering areas.
Migration and Wintering:
 This goose breeds in northern Canada and the northeastern tip of Siberia, and winters much further south in the continent in the southern USA and beyond. These birds migrate in large flocks, often visiting traditional stopover habitats in spectacular numbers.
Flyway Patterns:

The blue goose is common to the Central, Mississippi, and the Atlantic flyways.
Flight Formation:

High flying flocks in "V's" or irregular lines. Slow labored wing beats. Flight speeds can reach 70 MPH.
Voice:
 Both males and females have a shrill HONK or a hoarse QUACK.
